Lucapa has early-stage diamond exploration projects in Australia (Brooking) and Botswana (Orapa Area F).
Brooking is in Western Australia’s West Kimberley region, within 50km of the Ellendale mine which, when in production, produced more than 50% of the world’s annual supply of fancy yellow diamonds.
Lucapa commenced exploration at Brooking in 2017 with the aim of discovering lamproite – a known host rock for diamonds in the West Kimberley region, including at Ellendale.
This exploration program resulted in the discovery of source lamproite with significant concentrations of micro- and macro-diamonds at the Little Spring Creek prospect. While subsequent bulk sampling indicated the Little Spring Creek lamproite body was unlikely to be economic, Lucapa’s exploration programs have proven that the Brooking project hosts source rocks with high diamond counts.
Lucapa has also identified further drilling targets at Brooking, while also validating the diamondiferous nature of the known Big Spring lamproites.
Lucapa’s Orapa Area F project is located ~40km east of the prolific Orapa diamond mine in Botswana.
Preliminary exploration programs completed by Lucapa at Orapa Area F have been successful in identifying kimberlite drilling targets.
Lucapa is reviewing the scope and timing of future work programs at Brooking and Orapa Area F in line with the Company’s belief it will maximise shareholder value in the near term by focusing on growing production and cash flows from the Lulo and Mothae mines.
