Lucapa has operated the Lulo concession for more than a decade in partnership with Empresa Nacional de Diamantes E.P. (Endiama), Angola’s national diamond company, and Rosas & Petalas, a private Angolan company.

The Lulo partners conduct alluvial diamond mining operations through Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo (SML) (Lucapa 40% owner and operator), which was formally incorporated in May 2016.

Alluvial and kimberlite exploration activities are conducted by the same partners under Project Lulo JV, a separate exploration licence.

Following the election of a new Government in Angola in 2017, a new diamond marketing policy was formally enacted by President Joao Lourenco in August 2018 as part of a drive to increase foreign investment in Angola’s diamond sector.

The first international competitive sale of Lulo diamonds under Angola’s new diamond marketing regulations was completed in January 2019.
